Intentional for 10: Week 1

Posted by admin | Tags:

WOW! It was amazing to see all the thumbprints from this past weekend from people who have committed to fully engage our “Intentional for 10″ initiative! If you missed it, don’t worry. You can jump on board this weekend. Be sure to pick up the brochure at the Info Center (or get the online PDF here) as it is full of ideas for each of the 10 disciplines.

Need some more ideas? Here are ten more prompts to jumpstart your thinking:

Attend: Come early and sit in a new section.

Tithe: Set aside your tithe on payday before paying anything else.

Pray: Pray for West Greenville (Redemption Zone) ministry opportunities.

Sacrifice: Clean out closets/garage and donate to God’s Love or Operation InAsMuch.

Connect: Go out of your way to meet someone new at church this weekend.

Learn: Memorize a verse/week from either the sermon notes or the Weekly Scriptures (on the back of the sermon notes).

Fast: Go on a music fast: no iPod, CDs, radio, LPs or even 8-tracks (you know who you are) for 1 week. Spend the time engaging some of the other disciplines.

Witness: Be part of the More Hope House Block Party (in the Redemption Zone) on Sat, Oct 24 and share your faith with some of the neighbors.

Serve: Babysit for free (especially for a single parent).

Bless: Rake/mow/clean up a neighbor’s lawn (include your kids if you have some)

  • So my wife and I were discussing fasting options with our boys, and we decided as a family to fast all TV/video games/computer for 1 whole day a week. The problem came when we tried to pick which day! Can't do Sundays – that's football. I can't do Thursdays – that's Community and Leno. Kerri doesn't want to do Mondays – that's CSI. Can't do Fridays, or Wednesdays, and Saturdays are hard – so maybe Tuesday? And that's when we realized that we were trying to make it too convenient for ourselves. There's no sacrifice in convenience! There's no pain or suffering, or having to go without. We did pick a day, and it hurts.

  • Our family decided to put the fruit of the Spirit on display (Galatians 5:22). So each week, we concentrate on one. This week we randomly picked Peace. We discussed how we would incorporate Peace into our prayer, fasting, witnessing, etc. during the week. Our first night within moments of making this discision and discussing it, we were all angry w/one another for one reason or another. We quickly realized Satan was having fun. At dinner the 2nd day of Peace being on display we discussed when we had an opportunity to display and how well we did and what we'd do differenlty.

  • I so enjoyed the beginning of the new series. I had an idea related to something you said in your message. You mentioned the snow globes and Christians being in a bubble keeping the world out. It came to me sitting in church that a "Bursting the Bubble" ceremony would be a great way to committ to being truly Chirst like (little Christians)…..A symbolic way to say that Lord we go out into the community and let you burst our bubble and spread Your word! Just a thought (don't know if that was the Holy Spirit speaking just to me or if it is something for all of us?!) Thanks for everything
